Knowing When to Visit the Doctor for Back Pain


Most of the time, visiting a doctor to remedy the pains and discomforts in your back is not necessary. In general, the smaller pains and discomforts will go away on their own provided with a little time to rest and recover.

However, there will be times when seeing a doctor about the pain in your back is a good idea as they may be able to prevent the development of a more serious back condition. Here are some of the symptoms that you should watch out for that may indicate potential development of a more serious back condition:

1.       Numbness
2.       Tingling
3.       Severe Pain
4.       Constant pain that does not go away with medicine or rest
5.       Pain resulting from a fall or following an injury
6.       Pain connected with urination
7.       Weakness, pain, discomfort, or numbness in the legs
8.       Back pain coinciding with a fever
9.       Back pain coinciding with unintentional weight loss

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, you may be at risk for developing a serious back condition. If these symptoms are not treated, you may develop a disorder in connection with the nerves or your musculoskeletal system. As a result, you will want to see a doctor as soon as possible.

There are many different types of doctors that you can talk to about what you are experiencing. It is best to visit your general practitioner first as he or she will be able to determine whether or not your case is serious. If it is serious, he or she should be able to recommend several specialists to you for further treatment.
