Maintaining Good Posture While Sitting

http://sanjeevnanda.files.wordpress.com/2010/05/sitting-posture.gif
Back pain is something that afflicts hundreds of thousands of people at some point throughout their lives. It is not pleasant to experience, but fortunately there are many things you can do to try to relieve this pain.

One of the things that can have the most impact on relieving and preventing back pain is posture. Your posture when you sit and stand will either relieve the strain on your back muscles or it will add to it. The proper posture will help alleviate pain. Here are a few tips for maintaining proper posture while sitting:

1.       Put your feet on the floor or on a footrest
2.       Do not cross your legs
3.       Keep your ankles in front of your knees
4.       Maintain a small space between the back of your knees and the front edge of your seat
5.       Make sure your knees are at or below your hips
6.       Check to make sure the back of the chair is supporting your lower and mid-back
7.       Consider using a back support if it does not provide the needed support
8.       Relax and roll your shoulders back
9.       Keep your forearms parallel to the ground as much as possible
10.   Change position and walk around frequently to give various muscles a rest

As you sit properly, you may be able to relieve some of the back pain that you may have been experiencing. Good posture can provide you with other benefits as well, such as becoming more alert at work.

Recovering From Car Accident Injuries

Car accidents can cause lots of pain to all the parties involved, even if the damage to your car is minimal. When you are required to brake suddenly, or if jarring impact occurs, damage to the neck, back, and spine can happen in the blink of an eye. Whiplash is one of the leading causes of injury in car accidents, and can cause chronic pain, if not treated quickly and effectively.

When whiplash or other related injuries occur, the joints, discs, muscles, nerves, and ligaments can all be involved. This can create painful symptoms in your body, which may show up right away, or may even take a few days before you notice them. To treat an injury quickly and effectively, try these treatments:

1.       See a chiropractor right away for diagnosis and assistance. There are chiropractors who specialize in car accident-related pain and injury, and they can help you to target and treat exactly where the problem is occurring.

2.       To ensure that you do not have more serious injuries, you may want to have a CT scan, or an MRI done of the area that is causing you pain. This can help doctors to rule out serious injuries that could require surgical intervention.

3.       Do not try to resume your normal physical activities too quickly. Make sure that you seek treatment and diagnosis before returning to work, exercise, or any or strenuous activity that could exacerbate your condition.

While car accident injuries can be very painful and expensive to deal with, they can be treated effectively if treated quickly. Talk to a licensed chiropractor today about the pain you are experiencing in your back and spine, so that you can get the relief that you need.

Treating Low Back Pain for Runners

If you enjoy running on a daily basis, you may find that you occasionally experience pain and discomfort in your low back. When you run, your feet hit the pavement and send shock waves up your legs and into your spine. This can create muscle pain and discomfort, which should be treated so that you can continue to run as normal.

If the muscles in your abdomen and your low back are weak, this can also contribute to pain. Running generally tends to cause strength imbalances between these muscle groups. Add tight hamstrings, another common condition among runners, and you have created a recipe for pain.

To alleviate this pain, try cutting back on your running for just a little while. Moist heat can help to ease immediate pain, though this is treating the symptoms rather than the problems. One of the best things you can do is to see a chiropractor for an adjustment. Your discs may be deteriorating, and a chiropractor will be able to diagnose a problem and help you get the relief you need.

Your problem could be originating in your feet, your hips, your spine, your nerves, or just about anywhere. A professional chiropractor is the only person who will be able to give you the treatment that you need. Talk to a professional at Utah Spine and Disc today to get the relief you are seeking—you can be pounding the pavement again in no time.
